Halloween already??

Hi Everyone!

I cannot believe it’s already Halloween! We had our English Class Halloween party this week! It was so much fun. We played Halloween Bingo, Musical Chairs and the Mummy Game. The Mummy Game is where you split into teams and whoever can wrap up their person in toilet paper the fastest wins. Haha they loved it!

image5-1We also went and volunteered at one of our investigator’s Halloween parties. Her name is Aki and She teaches English. She had 3 little kid Halloween parties! We went and helped her hand out candy and do little games. After her party we went to dinner with her. At dinner she asked us a bunch of questions. She wanted to know all about missionaries and one of the questions she asked was why we could speak Japanese and how. That led into prayer and how we pray everyday. We explained that without prayer and God’s help, we wouldn’t be able to learn this language. Then Aki told us she had tried to pray on Monday which is a HUGE miracle because she told us she was Atheist two weeks ago! She said that she wanted to pray but didn’t know if she was doing it right. So we showed her the pamphlets and taught her how to pray then right before she dropped us off at our apartment, she said the prayer. Aki is amazing.

image4We had two more Morumon Show (the missionary singing group) performances this week! They were a lot of fun then that night we went to a member’s house with some less actives for karaoke! It was so much fun! We did lots of disney songs and everyone had a blast!

The branch members in Nakatsugawa are amazing! There is a member named Mizuno Shimai and she is fantastic!!!! She always takes us to visit her friends. She set up like 5 appts for us to go around visiting people with her and doing fun things with them! She is amazing and her house is beautiful! It looks like an American house and it’s where we did the karaoke! I love the branch members in Nakatsugawa!

image01Our investigator, Shuun, is getting baptized this Saturday! He is so prepared. We are so excited for him. We taught him about the priesthood last week and then he texted one of the members in the ward who was sick and said, “if you are sick again I can give you a blessing because after I am baptized I will get the priesthood.” He is so awesome!! We are praying for him a lot this week because it can be hard to decide to be baptized and stand out but he is going to be a really amazing member!

I LOVE NAKATSUGAWA! I love being a missionary here in Japan! I love sharing the gospel with everyone! I love this gospel and I am so grateful to have it in my life! I love all of you and I’m so thankful for all the support! I hope you all have the best week ever!!!

Also, if any of you have any good Christmas party ideas then just email them to me because apparently I’m in charge of planning the American Themed Christmas Party they want to do haha and I don’t have pinterest!! Haha!!

THANK YOU!!!

image4Heeeeyyy Everyone!!!

This week was great!! I ate Brazilian food, it was SOO amazing. It was called pastel? I think? But anyway we have a member in Nakatsugawa Branch that is Brazilian. We visit her every Friday and she usually makes us food. It’s soo good. We are also learning a song in Portuguese to perform in church or something? We haven’t decided yet but it’s really cool! Her name is Monica and she is amazing!

image4-1I also went on a companion exchange this week. I went to Meito and was in a trio for a day! Meito is close to Nagoya and it’s a pretty big city so it was VERY different than little Nakatsugawa haha. We visited a member and talked to her for 2 hours about her conversion story and we also met with a new investigator. Her name is Iris and she is half Peruvian. Last week she had walked up to them and asked if they were the missionaries because she had just done homestay in Australia and the family that she had lived with were Mormons. Then she set up a time to go to lunch with them so I was able to go to lunch with her because I was on an exchange. It was so much fun. She is amazing. She knows a lot about the church and she is really interested. We also invited her to come to Shuun’s baptism on November 5th!

We are so excited for Shuun to get baptized! He is one of the most prepared people I have ever met. He is so amazing. I know that he is going to be a great church member in the Nakatsugawa branch. His testimony is really strong and I’m so happy for him.

image3I had my first “Morumon Show” (that’s the missionary music group I’m in now haha) performance on Saturday! It was crazy but so fun! First of all we had to go in 3 separate cars because there are 16 of us and the drive was about 3 hours. Then we got lost so it took us an extra half hour to get there. When we found the church only one of the other cars was there, apparently the other car had gotten SUPER lost and were about an hour and a half away…… So we didn’t get to run through any pieces because by the time they got to the church we only had a half an hour until the show was about to start haha! But it ended up being great and people loved it! 🙂 It was so much fun! We get to sing fun songs like somewhere over the rainbow and viva la vida but also spiritual songs like savior redeemer of my soul and come thou fount of every blessing.
image3-1Yesterday we went to a Kabuki which is a Japanese classical drama. Our investigator was in it. It was the funniest, weirdest, most interesting thing i have ever seen and I only understood about half of it. Haha! But then our investigator’s mother in law turned to me and said “I’m Japanese and I didn’t understand like any of that.” Hahaha so then I didn’t feel as bad about the Japanese!!! 🙂 after the drama, they throw mochi (packed rice) into the audience! It’s so crazy! People have bags and just catch as much as they can! It was hilarious! I was so scared I was going to get hit in the head!

I love you and and I hope you all have the best week ever! I know this gospel is true and I know the Savior atoned for all of us. He loves us all unconditionally and wants us to be happy we just have to Come unto him. Thank you everyone! 🙂

Love,

Jones Shimai

What matters most

image37皆さんこんにちは!!!!
Hi everyone!!

I hope you all had a great week!! Wow so now I’m on my second week in Nakatsugawa! I love Nakatsugawa! I loved Suwa but I love Nakatsugawa too! The people here are amazing and the branch is awesome!!

So this week we went on a hike with a less active and it was beautiful. We got to see the sunset and we also met a couple from Australia. They talked to us for a little while and we gave them a mormon.org card. Haha!

image4We got a new investigator this week! Her name is Ai Chan!! She’s awesome! She’s married to a less active named Masaya San. A few months ago Masa called the missionaries and told them that he was less active but wanted to start hearing the lessons again and come back to church which is CRAZY awesome! So anyway, this week we went out to Indo Curry (Indian Curry) with Ai Chan, Masa and the Elders. While we were eating we started asking questions about God and it turned into the plan of salvation. Then we asked Ai Chan if she wanted to hear the lessons and she said YES!! She said she doesn’t understand but she will listen to our lessons!! YAY! Soo we are meeting with her tonight!! That was really awesome.

Yesterday night we had a devotional. Elder Bednar spoke and it was for all of Japan. It was really awesome. He talked a lot about the Spirit and Finding Joy in life.

“Get real clear about what matters most. Is what I’m doing bringing me closer to the Spirit of the Lord or is what I’m doing taking me away from the Spirit of the Lord? That will help you focus on the things that matter most in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

image42I really liked this quote. I just think this gospel is so amazing and I’m so grateful that I have it in my life. I know that if we really focus on the things that matter most, we will be able to find more joy.

He also talked about finding joy and he said that it’s normal to sometimes have to work to be happy. I just really liked that because sometimes we think that there’s something wrong with us if we aren’t happy or things aren’t going right but that’s not true. We are all human so it’s normal. I just know that through this gospel we will find real joy.

I’m so grateful for all of you!! Thank you for all the support and love. I love you all!!! I hope you have a great week!

Love,

Jones Shimai

I transferred!

image11Wow!! I have 5 mins!! Haha!!! Craziest pday ever! But anyway I transferred to Nakatsugawa and it is even more rural than suwa!! The branch has 20 people or less and there’s nothing. Haha not really but like no stores or anything. Well one grocery store. It’s crazy!!!!! But one exciting thing from this week is that we have an investigator with a baptismal date!!!! His name is Shun and he is one of the most prepared people i have ever met!! Ok i’m really sorry. I have no time. I promise i will write a more detailed email next week.

But anyway i know this gospel is true and i know i was sent to Nakatsugawa for a reason. I’m really excited to work here with my new companion, Sorensen shimai! I love this church and I love our Savior. Thank you everyone! LOVE YOU!!!

TRANSFERS!!

image11Hello everyone!!!!!!!

So this week was transfer calls…… annndd……I got transferred to Nakatsugawa! I leave tomorrow morning and my new companion will be Sorenson Shimai! I am really excited for a new adventure but also really sad to be leaving Suwa. I love the people here and the area. I know that Nakatsugawa will be great too! Apparently Nakatsugawa is even smaller than Suwa. Their branch is tiny and only has about 20 people? And since it’s so small we don’t even have a real church building. The church will be on the 4th floor of a business building! Haha! That will be exciting! 🙂

burntpieI know that God is sending all the missionaries where he needs them to go! I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to serve here in Suwa. All the people I’ve met here have really change my life. I love them all! I love you all!! Thank you for all the support!!! Have a great week everyone! I know this church is true and I know that God is our Heavenly Father. I know that we are all his children and that he loves each and every one of us.

Love, Jones Shimai 🙂
