I have no time again! Haha! Sorry I feel like I start out lots of emails like that but it’s so true. The time goes so fast on P-days haha!
Anyway this week was really great!!! We found some really awesome investigators! Leslie is from the Philippines. She came to church last sunday and yesterday. Yesterday we had a lesson with her and she said she wants to start meeting with us regularly! She said that she wants to meet with us on friday and she will choose a baptismal date then! She is really so amazing! She is having a hard time right now so we told her the elders could give her a priesthood blessing. They gave her a blessing and afterwards she said that she felt so good. She said she felt so peaceful. The spirit was SOO strong. Leslie is amazing.
We also had a Thanksgiving dinner as a branch. My companion and I made the pies! Haha! It wasn’t exactly a traditional Thanksgiving dinner haha. There was turkey and pie and mashed potatoes but then there was also all kinds of Japanese food and things like egg rolls haha! But It was soo fun!!
I love these members in this branch! I’m so grateful for my opportunity to serve here! I know that everyone is a Child of God. I know that God loves all of us unconditionally.
This week went really fast! Time is going so fast!! I am already halfway done with my mission! I can’t believe it! It’s so crazy!! I love Japan though!
Last Monday night we went to a park with the branch to see the Kouyou (leaf changing) haha. It was soo beautiful!! It was Elder Montoya’s last day here in Nakatsugawa before transfers! I’ll send pictures but they were way prettier in person!
We also helped Abe Shimai with her farm. That was the best thing ever! She had me pick tomatoes and told me I could eat as many as I wanted. I was in Heaven. Literally. Haha!
For the Morumon Show, we went to Matsumoto to perform! Matsumoto is the area right next to Suwa, my last area!!! A few members from Suwa came to say hi! It was soo awesome! We will be going to Suwa to perform on December 3rd and I am so excited!!
Sorry this email is kind of short and not very detailed, I’m running out of time again. Haha! But I will just say that I know this church is true and I am so grateful for the knowledge I have of this gospel. I know that it changes your life for the better and when you live the commandments you are truly blessed. I know you will find true joy through the gospel of Jesus Christ. I am so grateful for the Plan of Salvation and the knowledge that we will see those who have died again. I love the people of Japan and I love sharing the gospel with them. It’s never easy but it is definitely always worth it 🙂
Thank You EVERYONE!! I love you all and I really appreciate your support. I hope you all have the best Thanksgiving ever!! The Holidays are the best! 🙂 “It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” It really is!!! LOVE YOU!!
This week was soo great!! I think that’s how I start like every group email but really this week was amazing. The branch in Nakatsugawa is THE BEST!!!!
We did the 21 Day Promise as a branch which is an invitation from Elder Ballard to a Las Vegas Mission a long time ago! It is literally one of the best things that has happened to this branch! They all have so much faith and have given us so many referrals. They take us out to visit people all the time and to do random activities like hot yoga which turn into Dendō (missionary work) because these members are amazing and just start talking to them about the church. Haha they are fearless and I love working with them!
We got 11 new investigators this week thanks to this branch’s extraordinary faith! It was really amazing and yesterday we set a baptismal date with one of our investigators! Her name is An Chan and her date is January 8! We are so excited for her!!
We had transfer calls on Saturday and I am staying in Nakatsugawa with Sorensen Shimai for another transfer!! Yay!! I am now transfer 6 which is crazy! I’m becoming an “old” missionary. Yikes!!! Haha! But I am really grateful that I am staying here in Nakatsugawa for another transfer! I JUST LOVE IT
Anyway sorry this email is a little short. I just love being a missionary and I’m so grateful to be here in Japan! I really love the scripture Alma 26:27 because I know that the Lord loves us and he wants us to be successful and happy! I am so grateful for this gospel and I know that as long as we are doing our very best, Heavenly Father is proud of us!
Now when our hearts were depressed, and we were about to turn back, behold, the Lord comforted us, and said: Go amongst thy brethren, the Lamanites, and bear with patience thine afflictions, and I will give unto you success.
I LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!! Thank you for all the support! 🙂
OK, this week was one of the BEST weeks ever!!!!!!!!!!! I love being a missionary!
Last Saturday, one of our investigators got baptized! His name is Shun and he is AMAZING! He is one of the most prepared people I have ever met in my whole life. We taught him for about two months and he committed to being baptized on the second lesson! His prayer after that lesson went like this, “Dear Heavenly Father, I’m grateful that I could learn about you and thy son today. I think I want to get baptized. I’m looking forward to it. In the name of Jesus Christ Amen.”
We kept working with him through those few months and he is just the best. He kept all of our commitments, he usually went above and beyond and came to lessons with questions that he had been thinking about. He has changed so much in these last few months, for the better.
On Thursday night, he had his baptismal interview and he quoted Moroni 10:4-5 from memory to the District Leader. Then he bore his testimony about the Book of Mormon and how he has come to know in his heart that it is true.
Friday night, the night before his baptism, we had a lesson with him at the Jindo’s house (he is the branch president). It went so well and the spirit was so strong then at the end Shun bore his testimony. He said thank you for guiding him to Christ and that this has been the best time of his life. He said that he is definitely different than he was two months ago and that he absolutely loves coming to church. He has such a strong testimony and faith.
After the lesson, the Jindo’s wanted to have everyone hold hands and pray. They always do that at their house. Elder Montoya and I were right next to each other and we couldn’t hold hands but if Jindo Shimai sat in between us then Sorensen Shimai would be holding Jindo Kaicho’s hand. So we sat there for a good minute and a half trying to figure out what to do then Jindo Shimai goes “BABA SHIMAI! We will just grab Baba Shimai and have her sit in between Jones Shimai and Montoya Chōro.” (Baba Shimai is Jindo Shimai’s 99 year old mom who has dementia. She is sooo funny!) She grabs Baba Shimai and puts her in between Elder Montoya and I. As we are about to say the prayer, Baba Shimai says, “ichi, ni, san…..” (1, 2, 3, ….. all the way until 8) Then she goes, “Wow there is a lot of people here. I’m so happy!” (Ippai hito ga imasu. Ureshii desu!) It was sooo funny. Then Jindo Kaicho says, “Sometimes Baba Shimai comes in handy.” ????
The next day, Saturday morning, was Shun’s Baptism!! AHH!! It was sooo amazing. The spirit was so strong and after he got baptized he bore his testimony again. He talked a lot about prayer and how he felt really nervous but felt really calm after getting baptized. He said that he knows he will still have trials but because he has prayer he will be able to make it through them. I am just blown away by how much faith he has and how strong his testimony is.
Right after the baptism we had to run and catch a train to Takabata for another Morumon Show performance! We had 3 performances this week! The Takabata performance was the last one of this transfer then we will find out next week who is staying in the Morumon Show and who might be transferring out. ????It’s a little scary! Being in the Morumon Show is really fun and I’m so grateful I get this opportunity.
On Sunday we had Stake Conference and we all went to Okazaki. It was combined with a bunch of different wards and I got to meet the Brother that I did skype lessons with in the MTC!!! His name is Brother Miura and he is amazing! Shun came to stake conference and he fasted the day after his baptism. He is incredible.
We had our district activity today. We played soccer which I CANNOT play. Haha but it was still fun and we played Lava Tag on this awesome playground we found. We all felt like we were 6 again. Then afterwards we went to Indo curry and I got chocolate nan. Literally the best week of my life. Haha.
I’m so grateful to be here in Japan and I know that God has prepared people waiting for us. We just need to have faith and share the gospel with everyone we can. I love this church and I’m so grateful to have it in my life. Thank you to all of you awesome people who are supporting me. I love you all. I hope you have the best week ever!
