Miracles left and right!

Heeyyy!!
I hope that everyone had a great week!!!!!
This week was great, crazy, fun, full of miracles! Sorry, this email is gonna be all over the place!

Teaching Kids English
Teaching Kids English

Sooo it is officially a new transfer! We are excited to work super hard and make it the best transfer ever! Haha! Monday night we helped an Eikaiwa student with their kids Eikaiwa class! There were about 15 kids and they were soo cute! We taught some English and then played games with them!

Tuesday we went to visit Nilza Shimai, a Brazilian member, and give Paulo, her son, some cookies for his birthday! We showed up, gave them the cookies and a note, then Nilza shimai asked us to go with them to eat Yakiniku for Paulo’s birthday. We went with their family and ate sooo much meat………. we were stuffed. After that, we rushed to the eki to catch a train! We just BARELY made it on the train! It was crazy! When we got to Meiden-Nagasawa (a train station) we met a really cute girl named Seika! We were talking as we put money on our train cards and found out we were walking the same way, so she told us to wait outside and she will catch up with us so we can walk together. We waited for a few minutes then it looked like she was having problems wither her money so she stuck her head out and said to walk ahead because she needed to talk to someone. We exchanged phone numbers and she said that she would run to catch up to us. We were like ok and started walking. We didn’t really think she would actually run to catch up with us, we thought that she was just being nice but after about 5 mins we heard the sound of someone in heels running. We turned around and it was Seika! She caught up to us and we started talking about why we were in Japan. We explained that we were missionaries and she said that she was Christian! She told us that she wants to hear more about our message so we made a next appointment and gave her a pamphlet! We are meeting her tomorrow! Super excited for her!!!!!!!

Megumi San
Megumi San

Wednesday we started our 40 day fast! I did the 40 day fast as a young missionary and now I’m doing it again for my last transfer. We are super excited to see even more miracles through fasting! We visited a former investigator, Kobayashi Sachiko San, and asked if she wanted to hear the lessons again. She said yes and we set a next appointment! That night we went to meet another former investigator, Pascal, and asked if he wanted to take lessons again. He also said yes and we made a next appointment! So excited for all of these new people that we are meeting!!Thursday was the day of eating. We ate so much food. First, we visited some members (the Nakajima family) and ate tons of sushi. Then we visited one of our investigators and she gave us snacks. Then we met with Megumi (another former investigator) and ate pizza and pasta with her. Then we went to the Taniguchi’s house and ate more pasta and pudding. Our stomachs hurt soo bad. But aside from all the eating, the lessons went really good!! With the Nakajima family we talked about courage and faith. They have so much faith and they are always trying to be missionaries. They are amazing. Then we taught Yoriko, an investigator, about Jesus Christ and his atonement. She told us that she understands it in her head but doesn’t quite get how it applies to her. We bore a lot of testimony and told her that if she sincerely prays about it, she will get an answer. She told us that she truly wants to know so she will sincerely pray about it. Please pray for her to be able to get her answer. After Yoriko, we met with Megumi! It has been a long time since we met with her because she has been really busy with nursing school. We met with her when I was very first in Toyohashi a few times and then after that she got busy and we have been trying to meet but it just never worked out. On Thursday we texted her and asked when she could meet and she texted back and asked to meet today at 5! We were like ok sure! Haha! She wanted to go out to eat so, even though we were very full, we went out to eat with her. Going out to eat is like one of the only normal activities you can do with investigators as a missionary so they always want to go out and eat. Haha. As we were eating we talked about missionaries again. She told us that she still wanted to hear about the church! She prayed with us and told us she feels really good when she prays. We set a next appointment! We are meeting her tonight! Super excited!!! 🙂 that night we went to the Taniguchi’s. We made pudding with Yuri chan and shared the Because of Him video. We bore our testimony of the Savior. Thursday was a great day! There were so many miracles!

Ouch!

Thursday night we were riding home super fast because we were going to be late. As we were riding something got caught in my front wheel and all the sudden I flipped over the front of my bike. Heavenly Father was definitely protecting me. It happened so fast. All the sudden I was face down on the ground with a bike on top of me. I had some bumps and bruises and the wind was knocked out of me but miraculously the only thing that was bleeding was my hands. It seemed like I should have gotten a lot more beat up from the crash so it was really a miracle that only my hands were scratched up. I know that Heavenly Father is really watching over us and his Angels are protecting us. After the crash, we walked our bikes home the rest of the way and cleaned up the cuts on my hand. They are doing a lot better now and are healing pretty fast! I’m grateful for all your prayers! I’m thankful for our Heavenly Father! I know he is always thinking about us and protecting us.

Friday we met with our investigator Watanabe Koyuki San. It was a really good lesson. She is finally starting to understand the lessons. It’s kind of hard because her first language is Chinese so we have to try and teach in broken Chinese, Japanese and English to help her understand! Haha! But I know that the Spirit is teaching her because she’s getting it! She said that she will pray this week!

That night we had TOEIC class. After TOEIC we stayed behind to talk with one of the older students. He works with Black Thunder which is a very famous Japanese chocolate. They are trying to release Black Thunder in America so he wanted to get our American opinions on the products. Then he gave us special chocolate bars that haven’t even been released to the public yet. We felt really special. Haha.

Swimming Event
Swimming Event

Saturday morning we went with a member to watch her daughter swim across a river. Her daughter is in 6th grade and at her school they do an event every year where all the 6th graders swim across a 300 meter river!!! All the kids made it safely across the river. It was awesome to watch! On the way home from Nakata Shimai’s house, the member, we talked to an older lady named Tajima San. She was very friendly and wanted to know what we were doing in Japan. We explained that we were missionaries and then she got excited and asked if we have a church. We said yes and explained where it was! Then we started to exchange numbers. She told us that it was much too hot outside and that we need to sit in her car to exchange numbers. Haha! So we sat in her car, exchanged numbers, gave her a Plan of Salvation Pamphlet, and invited her to church the next day. She said that she will come and that she’s excited haha! It was really funny! Later, we had a Sports night with the ward! It was a blast!

Sunday night at 5 we had an event called Amigo Kai (Friend meeting). It was mostly for Brazilian members that live around Toyohashi but everyone was invited so a lot of people came! They had a very long testimony meeting then ate food! Haha! It was really cool to hear all the Portuguese and Japanese testimonies! One of the families that came to Amigo Kai was from Toyota. After the meeting one of their daughters went missing so we spent the rest of the night looking for her. Everyone was praying constantly. We looked until the Zone leaders told us that we had to go home. About a half hour after we had been home, we got a text saying they found her! It was a huge miracle!!! I know that Heavenly Father answers prayers! I am so grateful for a Heavenly Father that loves us unconditionally and is always mindful of us!

This week was great!! This email is kind of long and might not make a lot of sense but I do know that this church is true! I know that Heavenly Father loves us and is always thinking of us! I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior. I know that the power of prayer is real! I absolutely love being a missionary. I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything in the world.

I love you all! Thank you for all the prayers, love and support!!! I hope everyone has a great week!

Already the end of the transfer?

HEY EVERYONE!

I hope that everyone had a great week! I cannot believe that it is the end of the transfer already! Tomorrow I become a transfer 12 missionary. The time has gone way too fast. I’m not thinking about it yet though haha!

This week we had Trainer’s Review. Trainer’s Review is a meeting at the end of the transfer that the new missionaries and their trainers all go to. They talk to us about the goods and bads of the past 6 weeks. It was really cool to be able to see everyone again and to get really good training from Ishii Kaichou.

Koseki family!
Koseki family!

We also met with the Koseki family. I LOVE THE KOSEKI’S! We ate dinner together and then talked about the Book of Mormon. They made pastel, Brazilian food, and it was AMAZING. After eating everyone shared their favorite scriptures and bore testimony. It was so cool. The Koseki family has so much faith. I’m so grateful for them and for all the other ward members! They are all so strong and such huge examples!

Hiking
Hiking

Wednesday morning we went on another hike with Toshiko san! She has so much energy. She’s almost 70 years old and she goes hiking at least twice every week. We went on a two hour hike and were pretty tired by the end because of how hot it was but Toshiko san was just fine and told us that she wanted to keep going… lol.

Thursday night we had another kid’s English class at Nakata Shimai’s house. We taught some English then we made brownie balls together. The kids loved it! They want to keep on cooking so I guess we are doing and English/cooking class. Haha!

Friday night we went to watch special fireworks with Namiko. People make their own fireworks and then shoot them off while still holding them. It’s a big competition and pretty dangerous but apparently they love it! It was really cool to watch! These fireworks are only in Aichi Prefecture.

Fireworks with Namiko

Saturday night we went to watch regular fireworks with Koyuki Watanabe San. She brought her 4 year old son, he’s the cutest! Every time a set of fireworks ended he smiled really big, clapped and yelled YAY! Haha!

Yesterday we went to visit Nilza Shimai, Brazilian member. We ate dinner together, talked and then watched a video about courage in Portuguese. Nilza Shimai loved it. It was a video about Esther. After the video, I bore my testimony in Portuguese. It was a really awesome experience because it was definitely the gift of tongues. I have been trying to study a little bit of Portuguese lately for all the Brazilian members and as I was bearing my testimony, all the things that I had studied came flooding back. At first I didn’t even realize what I was saying but I definitely felt the Holy Ghost. I am so grateful that the Lord will help us and give us the words we need to say when they’re needed. We need to remember the Lord at all times because we would not be able to do anything without him.

This week Armour Shimai and I are working on being more patient and having more charity. I came across this quote that I really liked.

“There are two types of people in this world. Those you love and those you don’t know yet.”

I know that as we try to see others through Heavenly Father’s eyes, we will be able to be more patient and love them more. We will be able to understand them better and realize that everyone has reasons for doing the things they do. We might not always understand them but if we try to understand and love them more than we will be able to have more happiness and joy. I am so grateful for this gospel and for the opportunity to be a missionary! I love it!

I hope everyone has a great week and tries a little harder to love those around them.

I LOVE YOU!

Zone Conference
Zone Conference

Helloooo!!

I hope that everyone had a great week! We definitely did!

On Friday we went with a member, Matsuzawa Shimai, to her friend’s house. She wanted to introduce her friend, Yasuda San, to us and give her a Book of Mormon. We talked and got to know Yasuda San then explained what missionaries do/what our purpose is. Then Matsuzawa Shimai pulls out a Book of Mormon and starts telling her all about it. She told her conversion story and shared her testimony on the Book of Mormon. Then she marked the part about the Plan of Salvation and told her how much peace she feels because of knowledge of life after death. Yasuda San was super nice and told us that she was going to try and read the marked part!

The stake’s goal this year is to give out Book of Mormons! Everyone is working really hard! I am amazed by the member’s faith everyday! Another family in the ward, the Ishii family, have been handing out lots of Book of Mormons. Their son, Yuuto Kun who’s 12, gave a Book of Mormon to his friend and is giving one to his teacher soon! The members are all such good examples of faith.

Saturday night we saw an awesome miracle! We have been wanting to find an old investigator, Watanabe Koyuki San, because she sounds way awesome! It has just been way busy and we could never seem to find the time or we would try to find it and have no luck, but Saturday night was open so we decided to finally find her! It took a while but we finally found her house!!!!!! She was home!!!!! We were able to talk and found out that she still has a lot of interest, she had just gotten busy but now she has time! WHAT! So we made a next appointment for Thursday! We are going to teach her about the gospel and teach her English because she wants to become an English teacher! She also said that she wants to teach us Chinese haha! So I guess we are going to be learning Japanese, Portuguese and Chinese now lol!

Tanabata!
Tanabata!

Well, we get transfer mails this weekend…. super nervous. Armour Shimai and I really want to be companions for another transfer! I really don’t like transfer mails, they always make me nervous but I guess this will be my last one. It is still unreal that it’s about to be my last transfer. Somedays, like yesterday, I have little breakdowns and cry for an hour straight during sacrament meeting and other days I’m totally fine. But I’m super excited for this last stretch of my mission! We are going to work so hard! We have lots of awesome investigators right now and we are excited to see them progress! We are excited to find new investigators and work more with the members! I love Toyohashi Ward! I love being a missionary! It really is the best year and a half/two years!

I love this gospel! I am grateful for Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. I know that the Book of Mormon is true and I know that everyone can get that answer for themselves.

James 1:5, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”

Thank you for the support and the love! I love all of you and I hope you all have the best week ever! Talk to you next week!

Hello Everyone! Tudo bem? How are you in Portuguese?

I hope that you all had a great week! We had an awesome week packed full of miracles, heat, biking and learning Portuguese. Haha! There are a ton of people that speak Portuguese in this area so we are practicing and learning Portuguese with them! It is a lot of fun but hard. I thought Portuguese and Spanish were basically the same, I was wrong. Haha. They are similar but quite different.

French toast party!

Last Monday we went to visit the Yahagi’s, the ward mission leader’s family. It was a lot of fun but on the way back I almost fell off my bike haha. We were riding back kind of fast and we were going down a hill. I was trying to pedal but one of my pedals is broken so I couldn’t get a good grip on it. Anyway, long story short, as we were riding down this hill I sort of face planted on my bike. The bike kept going but I was sort of hovering on the bar. I thought I might die. My bike was going so fast. Then miraculously, I was able to get my foot back on the pedal and get back onto my bike. Wow! It was crazy. God was definitely protecting us! Haha!

Sushi with Tsurumi Shimai! Love her!
Sushi with Tsurumi Shimai! Love her!

Update on Namiko Chan!! She is awesome!! We met with her again this last week! She is so awesome! We asked her if she had prayed and she said that she had but just in her heart because she wasn’t 100% sure what to do. We reviewed prayer with her again and asked her to pray again this week. She said she will! We also invited her to church and she said she wants to come! We are going to pray that she can! She is really awesome. I love Namiko Chan!

On Wednesday we were riding to a member’s house, on the way we stopped and talked to a lady. We asked her where a store was, we already knew where it was but it’s a good way to get a conversation going haha, and she told us to follow her to her work so she could look up the address. The Japanese people are soo sweet. They always want to help you the most that they can. We followed her to her work and she takes us into a birth control clinic, all of her coworkers looked very shocked. It was interesting. She looked up the address then explained to us how to get there. Haha. So nice! Then we gave her and her coworkers Eikaiwa flyers. They were all shocked. They took them but acted like a bunch of middle school girls when a boy walks into a room. It was an interesting experience but hopefully some of them come to English class. Haha!

We went to visit Maria Shimai in the hospital this week with Koseki Shimai. In the car, we were able to talk a lot with Koseki Shimai. She is amazing! Her faith is so strong!! She told us the story of when she got baptized and how life was for her when her husband was against the church. He is now very strong in the church but at the beginning of their marriage there was a time when he did not like the church. I’m just amazed everyday by these members and how much faith they have! I absolutely love them.

Taniguchi Family!!! They are awesome!
Taniguchi Family!!! They are awesome!

Yesterday we met with some new investigators! They are a family! We called them last week because their number was in the phone and they set up an appointment for us to come back and visit. They are from Brazil. Sandro is the father, Katia is the mom, Maria is the daughter and Rafael is the son. They are so awesome! Katia is hilarious! We talked to them about past missionaries and what they talked about. They said that we were the first girl missionaries. They didn’t even know that there were Mormon women. They said they used to meet with missionaries for 30/30. We asked them if they wanted to do that again. They said yes and set up an appointment for next week! We told them that we would teach English then teach the gospel part in Portuguese. They are super excited because they love helping us with our Portuguese! They are such a cute family! We also told them that I was singing next Sunday in Portuguese and asked them if they could help with our pronunciation. They said yes, then looked at their schedule and said they are going to come to church next week to hear it. We didn’t even need to invite them! They invited themselves! Super excited!

It’s been a great week! I don’t have enough time to write about all of it. I love Toyohashi! Learning Japanese and Portuguese is great! The members are awesome! My companion is hilarious! I am so grateful for my mission. I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior and he loves all of us. I know that Heavenly Father knows each of us by name. He loves us. I am so grateful for the knowledge of the Plan of Salvation. I am grateful for eternal families. Please remember that you are all important!

I hope you all have a great week! I love you!!!!!!!

Have Fun Slap Faces!

HEEEYYY!!!

I hope that everyone had a great week!! Once again, we are out of time soooo I will type this email fast and hope it makes sense. Haha.

We had a great week here in Toyohashi! Armour Shimai is great! She really wants to work hard and I am learning tons of stuff from her everyday. She doesn’t need any training, she’s already great at everything! Haha!

We found some awesome new investigators this week! Namiko is one of them! She is in her 20’s and she loves English. We met her at Starbucks, we drank iced white hot chocolate lol, and talked in English for a bit then asked her if she wanted to hear our messages. She said yes so we taught her about Heavenly Father and prayer. It’s all still really new to her but she told us that she is going to pray this week! Super excited for her! She also loves doing hair and eyelash extensions so we are planning on getting haircuts and eyelashes done, maybe. Haha.

Yesterday night, we wanted to find one more investigator before the night was over. We started to call some former investigators in the phone and one answered and said they wanted to meet again! We have another appointment next Sunday! Yay! The power of prayer is real.

One of the Elders in our area is from Brazil so English isn’t his first language. He’s really good but sometimes he doesn’t get certain phrases. One day we were laughing a lot and he asked us why. We told him that we were slap happy, he didn’t get it. So we explained what slap happy meant but he didn’t get it all the way. As we were leaving the church, he rides away on his bike and yells back at us, “Have fun slap faces!!!” We were dying. It was hilarious. Hahaha!!

Another crazy thing that happened this week……. Sayuri San, the investigator I mentioned in my last email I think. We went back to visit her on Monday night. We were a little early so we waited a few minutes before knocking. Finally we knocked and no one answered but someone was in the room next to the door with the light on. So we knocked again and said hello. Then her Dad sticks his head out the window, makes eye contact with us and shuts the window. Haha ok…. so we wait a few more minutes then decide to go back downstairs and decide what to do next. We tried calling Sayuri but she didn’t answer. As we were deciding what to do next, her dad and little sister came downstairs, got in their car and drove away. We decided to try knocking just one more time. We tried again and no one answered. We went back downstairs and decided to go visit an old investigator. As we were looking her address up on maps, the dad came back. He stopped the car by the entrance and just waited. We thought it was a little odd so we just kept putting our helmets on and getting ready to go. As we were putting our helmets on, the mom walks downstairs and gets in the car. She was walking very cautiously and checking over her shoulder a ton before getting in the car though. Then we get on our bikes to leave and all the sudden Sayuri comes running up to the car from a different entrance but she’s running with her head down. She checks over her shoulder then jumps in the car and they sped away. It was a really weird. Sooo we might take a little break before trying to go back and visit.

Also, it is SUPER HOT AND HUMID! Everyday we walk outside, we feel like we are walking into a huge steam room. It is soo hot. Wish us luck this coming summer.

The members here in Toyohashi are great! I love them! They are super nice and sometimes try to speak little English phrases to us. Haha yesterday, when we were leaving the church one of the members called out to us and said, “Be Careful… Sunshine.” Hahahaha it was really sweet.

Getting ready to go out and hand out English flyers and Book of Mormons. Haha.
Getting ready to go out and hand out English flyers and Book of Mormons. Haha.

I love working here in Toyohashi. I love working with Armour Shimai. I love being a missionary! I know that Jesus Christ loves all you. He is our Savior. I know that Heavenly Father hears our prayers.

I hope everyone has a great week! I love you all!!! Thank you for all the support and love!

Love,
